Thank you for taking the time to explore my “digital diary” of parenthood. I’m the mother of a growing little eleven month old and soon-to-be-mama to a new bundle of blessings (debuting late July 2014). Yes, my babies are exactly twelve months (and some change) apart. And yes, they will be born in the same month. Crazy, I know.
I’m from the South and embrace my culture as a Black woman. However I’ve realized that it doesn’t define me. I’m all about “bridging the gap” and I’m about as diverse as a bag of skittles.
I practice gentle parenting which is totally unheard of in my neck of the woods. I’m from a world where if you looked at your mama wrong, you had it coming. And I’m sure ya’ll know what I mean.
I also practice daily mediation and believe in Eastern religious principles such as Hinduism and Buddhism, hence the name “zen mama”. My parenting skills are highly influenced by these cultures and the Spirit Science.
Creating this blog is my way of bringing two worlds together. I hope to inspire Black families to embrace natural/gentle/attachment parenting and also to connect with all mamas of any race who loves a good laugh and are taking the unconventional route to parenting. Kudos to you!
Disclaimer: I don’t claim to have all the answers. I am not here to point fingers at mamas who parent differently than I do. And finally, I am not one hundred percent where I want to be but each day I’m improving and moving one step closer. I’m a steady work in progress and hope you will join me for the ride. Smiles and hugs!
